Daniel Brown’s Tropic of Sunderland animation was installed in the plant room at the rear of the Aquatic Centre. The computer generated artwork is projected from inside the plant room onto the window section, transforming a utilitarian
facade into something with real appeal.

The artwork itself continually changes and evolves, creating an underwater scene in which various ‘plants’ grow, flower and move in an unseen current. Over time the types of plant changes, rewarding repeat viewings. The use of light and new technology is an area of public art that Sunderland should
embrace within future schemes.
